Will being in a sorority affect my grades?Yes! One of our membership characteristics in Academic Interest. Academics are a priority for all members! Tau Chapter has had the highest Greek GPA at Brenau multiple times because scholastic success is very important to us. We understand that everyone gets stressed and busy. We expect Alpha Chi to be important to you, but we all know it isn't your number one priority. We're flexible and we do our absolute best not to overschedule or overwhelm. However, we've found that grades usually go UP by being in a sorority! We all support each other through stress, have study sessions, and lots of our sisters are actually tutors in the Math SPA or the Writing Center on campus!

How much does it cost to join a Greek organization? For the amount of opportunites to become a better leader, develop yourself as a Real. Strong. Woman, and make a second family, the cost of a sorority is small. And can we talk about all the cool t-shirts that you get??? However, women interested in Greek life should consider that there is a financial aspect to Greek membership. Each organization's dues are different, so you should be sure to ask members for information about exact costs and payment plans. Payment for any Greek organization is separate from any tuition or fees paid to the university. If you have any questions regarding Alpha Chi's new member dues or general fees, email our VP Finance at axotaufinance@gmail.com!

How much time will being in a sorority take?Like any organization, the Greek experience is 100% determinted by how much you put in! Activites like holding an officer position or participating in events will require some of your time. However, with effective time management, you'll have no trouble at all participating in Greek life and having time for work, family, athletics, studying, and any other campus activities. Our sisters juggle work, school, campus involvement, and free time with no trace of regret for having joined Alpha Chi. Being in a sorority is fun, rewarding, and will not consume your time!

What is "Continuous Open Recruitment"?"At Brenau, our recruitment process is a little different from other traditional Greek recruitment styles. We do not have a "Rush Week" where students move in early and participate in a scheduled week of Greek recruitment events. Instead, we use a less formal, more relaxed style called Continuous Open Recruitment. This means that women interested in Greek life may recieve a bid (an invitation to memebership) during a scheduled bidding time. This bidding time will occur after the scheduled Panhellenic Information Sessions (which we super*** encourage you to attend if you are at all interested in Greek life) and the Chapter Open Houses. For recruitment dates specific to Alpha Chi, check out the recruitment page and fill out the interest survey! Also, if you have any other questions about recruitment, you can email axotaurecruit@gmail.com for the answers!
-
Do I have to attend every Greek open house and recruitment event? The simple answer is no. COR (Continuous Open Recruitment) rules state that attendance at every event or any event is not mandatory to receive a bid. However, we highly** recommend that if you are interested in a certain chapter or chapters, to make sure that you attend as many of their events as you can.
-
Is there a minimum GPA requirement to participate in COR or join a Greek chapter? There is no GPA requirement to participate in the recruitment process at Brenau. However, according to the Alpha Chi Omega Tau Chapter Bylaws a potential new member must have a minimum 3.0 GPA. A PNM can still be considered for membership with a GPA that is under the bylaw standard (no lower than 2.8) if she embodies all the other Alpha Chi Omega membership standards.
-
What are your membership characteristics and are they unique to AXO?Alpha Chi Omega nationally recognizes 5 membership characteristics when deciding whether to extend a bid to a PNM (potential new member). These characteristics are Academic Interest, Character, Leadership Ability, Financial Responsibility, and Personal Development. Members of Tau Chapter strive continuously to embody these 5 characteristics even after their new member period. These characteristics are unique to Alpha Chi Omega, but other national Greek organizations may also have similar membership standards.
-
How do I determine which Greek organization is for me?During COR (Continuous Open Recruitment), you will have the opportunity to visit all 6 of Brenau's National Panhellenic Conference sororities. In this process, you will see that all of us have a special flavor, but they all offer uncountable opportunites and advantages. We highly** encourage you to visit every sorority during the open houses, talk with members from each chapter, and get to know their culture and values before accepting a bid (invitation to membership) from any Greek organization. You want to feel like you've found a family and a home when you accept a bid!
-
Do I have to accept a bid? What happens if I do accept? You do not have to accept a bid during Continuous Open Recruitment. It is 100% your decision. You do not need to feel embarassed or ashamed if you decline a bid from any chapter! We understand that Alpha Chi may not be your home, but you'll always have a friend in us! If you do decide to accept a bid from Tau Chapter, you will sign a membership agreement and begin your super duper exciting new member period! During that time, you will learn all about Alpha Chi's traditions, history, and core values from the VP of New Member Education. You'll also get to make better friends with all your new sisters and get to have a taste of what it feels like to be an Alpha Chi. At the end of your new member period, you will be initiated into Alpha Chi Omega!

Is hazing permitted in any Greek organization at Brenau University?Absolutely not. Once a common tradition among many national Greek chapters, hazing has been banned by all National Fraternal Organizations and institutions of higher education. Brenau and Alpha Chi Omega strictly enforces this policy. Any organization that is found violating the no-hazing policy is subject to immediate suspension of campus and national recognition.
